Using Social Media to Support Causes- A Little Goes a Long Way
When non profits, giving individuals, and social media partner together, their power becomes undeniable. Social media provides the perfect venue for sharing the stories of the people that non-profits support. Those stories become compelling messages for gathering others to rally behind the cause. Videos, photos, blog posts, and online communities can incite more emotion than the traditional postcard in the mail and so, social media becomes a vital tool to creating the awareness and donations needed by a nonprofit to continue serving the people that need their help.
Next time you see a tweet or a Facebook post from a Cause that speaks to you remember social media provides you with the opportunity to help beyond just donating money. Donate seconds of your time and lend your reputation (or social media Klout and influence) by sharing the cause with your network. A simply tweet, Facebook post, or +1 can go farther than you think when people come together via social media. Hundreds of small acts of support can become a force to reckon with.
7Summits recently partnered with a local organization in hopes of bringing those 3 key ingredients together; our entire organization was instantly drawn in and exited to help. Penfield Children’s Center a Milwaukee nonprofit helping children with and without development needs from low income homes certainly tugged at our heart strings and we have been helping them grow their online social network ever since.
See how Penfield Helped a young girl, Born prematurely with Down syndrome, and facing significant physical and developmental challenges. Penfield therapists and nursing staff worked together to provide the quality care she needed to grow stronger.
From October 3-5 support Penfield in their campaign with Groupon’s G-Force, a $10 donation helps supply young children with Hats, Gloves, or a Coat this winter, $30 provides a child with all three.
