Hi Ana, I am glad you liked the blog! With respect to bringing a social context layer into the enterprise our partner Jive is leading the charge here. In the latest release of their Jive Engage social business software they released a piece of smart functionality called "What Matters". You can check out the following video for an overview:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWZsHDvcWg4

I really think Jive is the innovator here, so I will use them as a reference point. The "What Matters" functionality is deployed in a variety of very large public and private communities for majors corporations nationally and globally. Essentially "What Matters" functionality learns your behaviors and interests based on the people you connect with, the content you read and contribute to "serve" you vs. you having to "search" for the content and updates you care about. We are actively using this "What Matters" functionality at 7Summits on a public client social extranet we use to manage ours clients projects, and an internal social intranet that helps to manage institutional knowledge, processes and content. I've personally really seen this cut down my time scanning and searching for the information that matters to me, its my social inbox with personalization and context.

I hope this answers your question?

Hi James! Thanks for a great article! I am doing my PhD on exactly social media integration in informational content (health related area). I keep coming up with Netflix when I want to exemplify what I mean to other folks...

Do you know of other more business (or social action even?...) driven platforms that do this? I'm not talking so much about the direct integration of FB and such (which is nice, as you say ) but truly sophisticated algorithms like those that are behind Netflix and such (again, my example being Netflix LOL). You sound very informed about this matter so I will be eager to hear from you. I am curious about Jive what matter sand will check it out but from what you say I think it's not as amazing as ... Netlfix :)

Some of the things that he posted were quite absurd, and if you follow him on Twitter you're in for quite the ride! I love how his website is full of delicious bits of irony, too.

This guy might actually have mental problems. Look at his website front page! "Your brand is no stronger than your reputation"

Great post Shannon! I never thought the Dalai Lama's words would be applicable to social media.

Hopefully improvements in social media will lead to better interactions, stronger relationships, and more efficient communication. The future of social media is rapidly approaching, and I welcome it with open arms!

Good article. I'd also like to add that if you're not too sure about a consultant, and it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Something many new clients always ask is why they aren't seeing any results right away. I think it's important to share in the beginning with new clients that if they have a brand new site, or have never optimized their site, it typically takes 3 months to see any real changes in search engine rankings because it takes time for Google to re-index new content and evaluate if your website is worthy of higher rankings for your target keywords.
